Thomas Jack
Thomas Jack, originally from Scotland, became Mayor of Dalby in 1930 and held the position until 1952. He was a lover of classical music, a first-class violinist, and the founder of the Dalby firm, Thomas Jack & Co. Ltd.
As the Mayor and chairman of the Finance Committee he made many improvements in the administration of the Council's affairs. Backed by enthusiastic and hardworking Aldermen, the town developed a program of street and footpath improvements, improved water and light reticulation, street planning, the provision of recreation grounds, the erection of the Dalby Pool, and the laying down of hockey fields, bowling greens and tennis courts.
Thomas Jack died in 1952, and with business at a standstill, large crowds lined the streets of Dalby to witness the funeral procession of Dalby's late Mayor, the largest that Dalby had ever seen. So large was the congregation at St Thomas' Presbyterian Church for the service was broadcast over a public address system for those standing outside.
In 1951, the public park in Drayton Street, was renamed 'Thomas Jack Park'.
