COMMUNITY UPLOADS

Are you going through your family's old photos? Or preserving the historic records of a local community club or school? You can share your images with Picture Western Downs and contribute to our region's shared local history.

What kinds of images and information can you submit?

Picture Western Downs is looking for local images and stories in the following subject areas:

  • Buildings and Structures
  • Business and Industry
  • Events
  • Government Organisations
  • Natural Disasters
  • People and Families
  • Places
  • Schools
  • Sporting and Community Groups

You can upload photos one at a time or, if you have several photos depicting the same subject, you can upload them as a group. Most file types are supported. 

What will happen after you submit images?

All content is reviewed by library staff before going live on Picture Western Downs. This is to ensure it is appropriate for public use, supports project goals, and meets cataloguing standards. All submissions will be edited to include additional metadata and formatting. You may be contacted by library staff for further information or clarification.

What about Copyright?

All images and information provided may be made public and available for others to use. Please make sure you have the right to share them with us before you submit them to Picture Western Downs.

We welcome images that are in Public Domain in Australia. Alternatively, we can accept images that you are willing to let others use under a Creative Commons CC BY-NC-SA licence.

• • Public Domain: this refers to items that are Out of Copyright. You can find out more about Copyright in Australia at The Copyright Agency. In Australia, photographs that were taken prior to 1955 are out of Copyright. Other types of content are subject to different criteria and time periods.
  • Creative Commons CC BY-NC-SA: This license enables reusers to distribute, remix, adapt, and build upon the material in any medium or format for noncommercial purposes only, and only so long as attribution is given to the creator. If others remix, adapt, or build upon the material, they must license the modified material under identical terms. You can find out more about this and other Creative Commons licences at Creative Commons.

 

If you have images or information you would like to contribute to Picture Western Downs that are still under Australian Copyright and you are not able to agree to a CC BY-NC-SA licence, please contact us to discuss the matter. We may still be able to accept your content under a different Creative Commons licence agreement.
