In 1903, Thomas Jack purchased a drapery and grocery store owned by Mr. T. C. Hanley in Cunningham Street, Dalby.
Thomas Jack's business was purchased by Mackenzie and Co. Ltd in 1906, as Thomas Jack was relocating to Sydney to commence business there.
In 1908, Thomas Jack returned to Dalby and purchased the business back from Mackenzie & Co. Ltd., changing the name to Thomas Jack and Co. Ltd. The business would later move to another location in Cunningham Street, where it would remain for many years.
Thomas Jack & Co. Ltd. was a large emporium and was one of the oldest general stores in the Dalby district. It had a reputation for the high quality of its goods, and a tradition of excellent customer service which lived up to the business's motto of "Personal Service Means Everything".
Thomas Jack retired from managing the business in 1936.
