Unveiling of Russell Memorial Drinking Fountain, 1932
A large number of people journeyed to the Bunya Mountains on Sunday 4 September 1932 to be present at the unveiling of the fountain erected to the memory of the late Mr. Wilfred Adams Russell.
The ceremony was performed by the then Minister for Lands (Mr. P. Pease) who said:
It is a fitting thing that the people of Dalby and district have done, in erecting this memorial in this beautiful spot. There is no other place in Queensland where, if he had power to decide, the late Mr. Russell would wish to see his memorial. For he loved this spot.
The unveiling ceremony was a simple & solemn one, & the speakers briefly paid tribute to the memory of the late Mr. W. A. Russell, and his labour for the district. The Minister then pulled the cord to allow the Union Jack to slip back from the fountain. He then drew and drank the first glass of water from the fountain.
Following the ceremony, visitors proceeded to Mount Mowbullan where lunch was partaken of at the guesthouse.
