Russell Memorial Drinking Fountain
HistoryThe Russell Memorial Drinking Fountain is a monument erected in memory of Mr. W. A. Russell, who donated the land known as Russell Park to the former Wambo Shire Council.
The fountain was sculpted by Mr. J. H. Shill & erected at Munro's Camp. It is an obelisk in Helidon free stone, standing about 5ft. 6in. high mounted on three steps, with a carved stone drip and metal tap. The water comes by gravity from a spring close by, led into the fountain at the rear by concealed pipes. The base of the obelisk bears a marble slab, inscribed:
This fountain has been placed here to commemorate the gift of Russell Park to the people by the late W. A. Russell, MLA, and in appreciation of his services to Dalby electorate. 4/9/32.
The fountain was officially unveiled at a ceremony which took place at Munro's Camp on 4 September 1932.
Restoration of the fountain by the Bunya Mountains Natural History Association was unveiled by Mrs. C. W. Russell on 2 July 1978.
