Russell Park
Russell Park is 1000 acres of rainforest & escarpment donated to the people of the Dalby district in 1927 by Mr. W. A. Russell.
After acquiring the property on which the park now stands, Mr. Russell told Mr. Drury (Mayor of Dalby) that he was having a survey made along the whole ridge so that it could be vested in the Wambo Shire Council in perpetuity. The only stipulation he made was that the Council should only hold the land for the people, and that no charge should ever be made in the park.
The park came into existence following the creation of a road to Mount Mowbullan. It was then that Mr. Russell handed over to Mr. Drury, acting as representative for the Wambo Shire Council, the 1000 acres which was to become known as Russell Park.
In 1932 the Russell Memorial Drinking Fountain was erected in the park in memory of Mr. W. A. Russell. The fountain was unveiled at a ceremony held on 4 September 1932.
The 6.5 km of walking tracks were created in the early 1980’s by crews from the former Wambo Shire Council.
