Richard Charles Drew was born in 1891 and arrived in Dalby to work as a jeweller in 1908, eventually purchasing a jewellery store in 1916.
He became an Alderman in 1924 and was elected Mayor in 1952, becoming one of Dalby's longest serving Mayors.
Charles Drew was a prominent Dalby citizen and held many community group positions, including chairman of the School of Arts, conductor of the Methodist choir, treasurer of the town band, president of the tennis association, and secretary of the school committee. However, his two greatest interests were sport and music, with Mr. Drew being a popular cricket umpire, and a bass soloist in the church choir.
Mr. Drew's son, Clive, also served as an Alderman on the Dalby Town Council from 1962 to 1988.
