Hotel Russell
Russell TavernHistory
The Hotel Russell was built in 1926 on the corner of Cunningham & Roche Streets, Dalby. The hotel was built by Wilfred Adams Russell on the site of the old wooden Club Hotel, which was destroyed by fire in 1923.
Wilfred Adams Russell purchased the vacant land in 1925, and rebuilt the Club Hotel, changing its name to the Hotel Russell when it re-opened in 1927
The Hotel Russell occupied the entire corner block, and the two story hotel had an 80ft frontage on Cunningham Street, and a depth of 100ft along Roche Street.
Newspaper reports from the time state that the Hotel Russell was spacious and commodious, the comfort and convenience of the traveller being the main object of the designer. The hotel featured 28 bedrooms, electric lighting, and a balcony running the full length of the Cunningham & Roche Street aspects.
The hotel was destroyed by fire in 2001, and was rebuilt. It is now known as the Russell Tavern.
