Thomas Evans was an early pioneer of the Chinchilla region. He was a native of Bristol, England, and came to Victoria as a child. Later, he was a member of the Victorian police force during the days of the Kelly Gang.
In 1907, Thomas Evans moved to Queensland with his wife and family, and purchased land in the Chinchilla district.
He was a foundation member of the Chinchilla Shire Council, serving as a Councillor for 23 years, with one term as Chairman from 1914 to 1916.
Thomas Evans was instrumental in the founding of the Chinchilla butter factory, was an active member of the Chinchilla Show Society, and served as a chairman of the Chinchilla Progress Association.
