Richard 'Dick' Aland entered public life as an Alderman in 1961 and became Mayor in 1974.
Richard Aland was born in Stanthorpe in 1923 and served during WWII. After the war ended, Richard Aland studied accountancy and qualified as an associate in accountancy of the University of Queensland in 1950. He worked in the Brisbane Gas Company before accepting an accountancy position in Mackay in mid 1950. In 1951, he accepted a position in Dalby with accountant, Eric Hockings. In 1973, he formed the accountancy partnership R.W. Aland & Co., retiring from the partnership in 1989.
Richard Aland entered public life as an Alderman in 1961, and was elected Mayor in 1974, holding the position until 1982.
Richard Aland died in 2008 at the age of 85 years. The 'Dick Aland Sports Ground' in Dalby was named in his honour in 1981.
