Patrick Landy, one of Dalby's earliest pioneers, was born in 1839 at Frankford, County Kilkenny, Ireland, He migrated to Queensland in the 1860s, and started business as a storekeeper at Helidon, after which he moved to Dalby and had a store in Drayton Street.
Patrick Landy was elected Mayor of Dalby Town Council five times and held the position in 1874 & 1876 to 1879. In 1874 he contested the Parliamentary representation of Dalby, but was defeated by Sir J. P. Bell, with a small majority.
During the work of extending the railway from Dalby to Roma, Patrick Landy induced many persons to open business places along the line, and many families settled in the various townships owed their success in life to the start given by Patrick Landy.
From 1885 to 1890 Patrick Landy was engaged in business in Ipswich, then he retired into private life. He died in Ipswich in 1904, at the age of 65 years.
