Frederick Eastaughffe was born in 1851 in Tabulum, in the Clarence River district of NSW. He was the son of Sergeant Charles Douglas Eastaughffe of the New South Wales police, who had come to Dalby armed with authority to take charge of the young settlement 'in the interests of the civic peace of Queen Victoria'.
Frederick Eastaughffe was with the Dalby Herald at its inception, and later became co-proprietor with Mr. M. Jordan. He was also a prominent officer in the Queensland Defence Force in its organisation during the early days.
Frederick Eastaughffe became Mayor of Dalby Town Council in 1889 at the age of 37, but died before the expiration of his term of office the same year.
