Donald Alexander Whiteman was Chairman of Tara Shire Council from 1991 to 2000. He filled the position of Chairman in September 1991, when the position became vacant due to the death of Chairman Betty Gill.
Major works during Don Whiteman's tenure included switching on power to 500 rural subdivision blocks in the Tara Shire, the final stage of bitumen sealing of the Chinchilla-Tara Road, providing safer access to the Tara airport and rural subdivision areas, the purchase of the National Australia Bank building in Meandarra as the new premises of the Meandarra Library, development of The Gums reserve, renovation of the Council administration building in Tara, and the unveiling of Tara's new War Memorial at the corner of Day & Fry Streets.
