Andrew Watt Adams was born in Bendigo, Victoria, and moved to Tara in 1908, having selected land at Perthton. He was one of Tara's best known and most prominent citizens and was associated with most public bodies in the district.
Andrew Watt Adams was involved in establishing the Bush Nursing Centre at Tara, and the building of the Tara Soldiers' Memorial Hall. He was also involved in establishing the Tara Pastoral & Agricultural Society in 1932 and was Chairman of the Society until his death in 1943.
Andrew Adams also took an active role in politics and was president of the Tara branch of the Queensland Country Party.
He was also a member of the Tara Shire Council for many years, first being elected a Councillor in 1916, and becoming Chairman for the first time in 1920. He was again elected Chairman in 1923, and held the position until 1933, when he lost his seat on the Council. In 1936 he was again elected Chairman and remained in office until 1939.
