The first move to open a school at Meandarra was made by Mr. John Payne, who wrote to the Education Department on March 23, 1913.
A tent type school was built and was opened on 27 September 1915. Fourteen pupils enrolled on the first day with Mrs. Ellen Mitchell as Head Teacher.
Meandarra State School (No. 1473) is still offering educational programs for students in Prep to Year 6.
