Bell Memorial
The Bell Memorial is an obelisk dedicated to the memory of the Hon. J. T. Bell. It was unveiled by the Govenor of Queensland at a ceremony held on 1 March 1914.
The obelisk, purchased by the citizens of Dalby, is 19 feet tall & weighs 6 tons. It is composed of Birkhall grey granite & stands on a base of grey colonial granite.
An inscription on the memorial reads:
"The Honourable Joshua Thomas Bell, who died March 10, 1911, aged 48 years. Following with love and reverence in the footsteps of his father, entering early into public life he represented Dalby for 18 years, 1893-1911, in the Parliament of Queensland, was Minister for Lands 1903, Home Secretary 1908, and Speaker of the Legislative Assembly 1909-1911. He ever displayed eloquence in speech, dignity in action, fidelity to friends, and to all courtesy and kindness. Honoured, lamented, and beloved, this monument is erected to his memory by many of his friends."
The Bell Memorial stands in Bell Park, at the corner of Cunningham & Roche Streets, Dalby.
