The grave of Edward Bassingthwaighte on Jinghi Jinghi.

The inscription reads "In loving memory of Edward Bassingthwaighte. Died April 17 1898. Aged 76 Years".

A newspaper article from the time stated that it was his wish to be buried at Jinghi Jinghi, the country he had taken up 30 years prior, improved, and left as an inheritance to his sons. 

"They laid him low on Monday evening last when the declining sun, also setting low in the west, shed its declining rays across Jinghi Range. They laid him under a grassy plot, he had so often trod in the vigour of manhood, on the banks of Jinghi creek, where the murmuring
stream rippling over the pebbles will croon to him an everlasting lullaby. In time to come grandchildren will play around, and plant flowers on his grave, while the legend will be told and retold again that he was the 'Last of the Mohicans', the last of a race of pioneers, now extinct."
