The steam locomotive in the image is a Queensland Railways A12 class steam locomotive, either No. 258 or No. 268. The A12 class locomotives were built by the Evans, Anderson & Phelan Company of Kangaroo Point.

A12 No. 258 was built by Evans, Anderson & Phelan in 1891. It entered service on the Queensland Railways in December 1891 & was builders' number fourteen produced by the company for Queensland Railways. It was taken out of service in August 1910.

A12 No. 268 was built by Evans, Anderson & Phelan in 1891. It entered service on the Queensland Railways in December 1891 & was builders' number twenty-four produced by the company for Queensland Railways. It was also taken out of service in August 1910.

Evans, Anderson & Phelan, or EAP as it was known, was a foundry & engineering works established in 1877, & was a well-known name associated with locomotive, wagon, & carriage building in Queensland.

Up until 1930, EAP built 185 steam locomotives for Queensland. The company was known for their unique method of delivering locomotives along Main Street, Kangaroo Point, using portable track panels to the railways at Wooloongabba.
