McPhie & Co. was an auctioneering established in 1896 by Alexander McPhie. The business established branches in Longreach, Hughenden, Winton, Charleville, Pittsworth, Oakey, and Dalby.
McPhie & Co. played a significant role in the development of the stock markets in Queensland, particularly on the Downs, and was strongly associated with the growth of the Dalby district.
Millions of horses passed through their hands, either at their auction sales or by private treaty, for all parts of the Commonwealth and India, and it was thought that McPhie & Co. operated more extensively in the horse market than any other agent in the Southern Hemisphere.
