The Dalby-Wambo Saleyards (& Board) was established in the 1940s when it became the first local government run saleyards in Queensland.
The Board purchased two private saleyards where it started operating until a better site was selected.
The first sale of sheep, lamb, pigs, calves and vealers occurred at the current site in 1957, followed by the first cattle sale in 1958. Sale numbers grew from 350 head in the early days to 1600 head yardings during the mid 1980's.
Current sales generally exceed 4500 head per week, which is over 200,000 cattle per year.
In 2015, a $12.6m project was undertaken to upgrade some of the facility, which included 680 yard replacements, a large roof over the new yards, as well as general works to the stock handling ramps and access roads. In addition, a vehicle wash down point was also established.
The Saleyard has an extensive electronic sales tracking infrastructure installed, and has held an NSQA (National Saleyard Quality Assurance) & EU (European Union) accreditation since 2017.
The Saleyard currently limits its sales to cattle only, with some limited private sales of cattle & bulls.
