Maria Susannah Moffatt
Maria Susannah Moffatt (nee Panton) was the eldest daughter of the Hon. John Panton MLC, and Isabella North. John Panton was a respected businessman, magistrate, member of the New South Wales Legislative Council, and a Member of the Queensland Legislative Council until his death in 1866.
Maria Panton married Samuel Moffatt in 1863, and in 1864 after the death of Samuel's brother Thomas, they moved to Cumkillenbar Station, a smaller subdivision of the vast Jimbour run.
For the next 20 years, Samuel and Maria lived in style in the station homestead and entertained lavishly. The Moffatts kept a large staff and were familiar figures at the races. They made frequent trips to Jimbour Station, as Maria Moffatt was an old friend of Lady Bell, having been a bridesmaid at her wedding.
The Moffats raised five daughters while living at Cumkillenbar - Elizabeth, Maria, Matilda, Mary, and Josephine.
