Opening of the Railway at Jandowae
The railway line from Dalby to Jandowae was officially opened by the Minister for Railways, The Hon. W. T. Paget on 26 August 1914.
Prior to the opening, a train from Toowoomba, via Dalby, carrying 550 people, drew into Jandowae at 11.50 am, and its arrival was met by an outburst of enthusiasm from the hundreds who had gathered at the station, many who had travelled distances in all kinds of vehicles to be present in the history making event.
Those who had arrived by train disembarked, and the Dalby Town Band struck up 'Rule Britannia', marking the commencement of the proceedings.
In his speech, Mr. M. F. Hobler (Chairman of the Reception Committee) said that Jandowae had been an isolated bush township, but after that day it was going to be a town of some importance with a splendid future.
Dignitaries then boarded the train, situated 50 yards from the station, and the train began to move slowly towards the station to the accompaniment of cheers. Fog horns sounded, a ribbon across the line was broken, and applause swelled to cheers.
