Lord Forster Cup
The Lord Forster Cup was an annual event held to determine the best turned-out Troop of Light Horsemen in Queensland & New South Wales.
On 1 June 1929, in the presence of a large group of Jandowae and district residents, the Jandowae Troop of the 11th Light Horse Regiment were unbeaten for the third time in the Lord Forster Cup competition.
The inspection parade commenced at 2.30 pm, and was held on the old football ground, where a parade ground had been specially marked out, and a dais erected. The Regimental Commander, Major Norman Lucas, asked General Foott to inspect the Troop, which were then handed over to the judge, Major A. B. Steele, of Army Headquarters, Melbourne.
A thorough examination lasting two-and-a-half hours then took place. Twenty minutes after the completion of the inspection, General Foott announced the verdict, and congratulated the Troop to a burst of prolonged cheering from the gathered crowd.
For the pleasure of all present, the Troop then carried out a number of spectacular movements and finally paraded through the streets of Jandowae before being dismissed.
The distinction of winning the Cup on three successive occasions was a great honour for the 11th Regiment, and the Commanding Officer expressed his appreciation when congratulating Lieut. Lyon and his Troop.
