One of the most serious accidents at the level crossing in Dalby occurred shortly before 9.45am on Thursday 17 August 1939.
The Dalby bus, which was returning to town from the Hospital, was struck by a train from the west and sandwiched between it and a stationary goods train in the railway yards.
Mr. Harry Edwards, the driver of the bus, suffered severe lacerations on the legs and lower part of the body, and was admitted to hospital. His condition was regarded as critical, but the following day his condition had shown improvement.
Mrs. Mary Ashmore, the only passenger in the bus, escaped with a few bruises after throwing herself on the floor of the bus when she saw that the collision could not be avoided.
The bodywork of the bus was wrecked, and slight damage was done to the railway engines.
