Pink, white, and amber with silver bells and silver roses, were the colours chosen for the hall decorations at Chinchilla on 1 June 1931, when the first annual Chinchilla Catholic Ball was held.
Streamers radiated from a centrepiece in canopy effect, and a lattice work twined with evergreens and hung with baskets of roses was arranged around the walls.
Above the stage was a replica of the shield and crest of the Bishop of Toowoomba (Dr. J. Byrne) who was present, attended by the Rev. W. V. McGovern PP, Rev. J. Caddigan (Dalby), Rev. J. Madden (Toowoomba), Rev. T. McCormack (Roma), and Rev. T. Concannon (Dalby).
The decorations in the hall were arranged under the supervision of Mrs J. E. Mackie, and the supper room which was similarly adorned, was arranged under the direction of Nurse Fitzgerald. The several committees responsible for the general arrangements were headed by the Rev. Father McGovern.
Ten debutantes were presented to Bishop Byrne by Mrs J. E. Mackie (Matron of Honour). They were frocked in white and silver and all wore white tulle scarves held with silver or crystal buckles, and carried bouquets of white blossoms arranged with silver ribbons and tulle.
The debutantes were the Misses Myrtle Somerfield, Edna Mackie, Aileen Zeller, Beatrice Towler, Thelma Zeller, Elsie Tattem, Winifred Healy, Eunice Houghton, Nix and Teresa Murphy.
Mrs Mackie, as Matron of Honour, wore black ring velvet, and was presented with a bouquet of pink gerberas and sweet peas.
