The inaugural meeting of the Miles & District Historical Society was held in September 1968. The meeting was held at 'Aldersyde', the property of Bud and Patricia Ford, to discuss the proposal of forming a local Historical Society.
The committee was formed with Bud Ford as President, Patricia Ford & Valerie Sturrock as Secretaries, and Father Leahy as Treasurer. Joyce Davidson, Doris Davidson, David Mundell, Mrs. Charles Young, Mrs. Gwyneth Campbell, and a few others were in attendance on the day.
The Historical Society went on to establish the Miles Historical Village Museum.
