In 1946, the president of the Dalby Girls Sporting Club, Miss N. Curran, announced that there would be eight basketball teams in the 1946 competition, these being the two High Schools (Dalby State & St. Columba's), and the Bluebells, Dominoes, Boomerangs, Waratahs, Lightnings, and Wirriways.
Basketball fixtures commenced on 11 May 1946 with St. Columba's winning the NFC Cup, and Waratahs and Dominoes as runners up.
A record number of games were played with outside towns including Toowoomba, Jandowae, Chinchila, Oakey, Milmerran, Roma, Warra, and Charleville.
