The Wintergarden Theatre in Cunningham Street, Dalby, was destroyed by fire on 22 February 1931. The fire started in the early hours and destroyed the theatre and a number of other businesses.
The fire's hold on the Wintergarden Theatre became evident as the yellow tinge of the flames indicated that the films shown during Saturday night's programme had gone up in flames, and it soon became obvious that the building that had been fondly regarded as "fireproof," was to be completely destroyed together with its contents.
The fire was stopped by a brick wall next to a butcher's shop, which had been erected as a protection against fire.
The Wintergarden Theatre contained the latest Western Electric talkie equipment, which had been recently installed at considerable cost. The total damage bill of the fire was estimated to be approximately £14,000.
