During the 1920s, the Department of Public Instruction provided the Travelling Manual Training School to country centres where technical colleges were not established, and completed courses of instruction in domestic science or manual training.
In 1927, the travelling school arrived in Jandowae and stayed for 6 weeks to instruct the students from Jandowae State School. Boys learned woodwork, leatherwork and tin smithing in one car, while girls were provided instruction in domestic subjects in another car.
