The Queensland National Bank was established in Brisbane in 1872, with the first Queensland National Bank in Dalby opened 8 December 1874. It was a wooden building situated next door to the Commercial Bank in Cunningham Street, Dalby.
The second Queensland National Bank building in Dalby was located on the corner of Cunningham & Stuart Streets, opposite the Commercial Hotel. It was a two-story brick building and was built between 1908 & 1912. The ground floor was used as the bank, with the manager's residence on the second floor.
By the end of 1914, the Queensland National Bank had its head office in Brisbane with branches throughout Queensland. The bank constructed many substantial and ornate buildings as branches, with the second Dalby branch building being a fine example of this trend. In 1915, an acetylene gas fire broke out in the manager's bedroom, however the bank was saved by the manager & his wife rolling & tossing the burning mattress over the balcony into the yard below.
Decades later, the building was demolished to make way for new National Bank premises, which opened on the site in 1977. This building still exists and is currently used as a Suncorp Bank branch.
