The first Post Office in Miles was opened in 1878. In 1912, a tender was accepted from Mr. A. Barr, a contractor from Toowoomba, to build the new Miles Post and Telegraph Office and quarters for £1,181.
The new building was a compactly arranged wooden building with a gable front to a public space, with a porch approach on each side. The office was 30ft x 16ft, complete with with fixtures and fittings, and battery-room etc. The quarters attached contained four rooms, side and large dining veranda latticed in, with kitchen, bath, pantry.
