In 1917, a half day school opened in Downfall Creek, sharing a teacher with Guluguba Provisional School, but this was closed in 1918. Local children were then home schooled and tutored by their own families.
As time passed, children were bought together in homes for tuition, and this practice developed to such an extent that parents provided a building for their children's tuition. All labour was voluntary, and furnishings were donated.
In 1940, the local Lutheran community established a Lutheran Day School known as the Downfall Creek Lutheran School. This was the first Lutheran School to be established in Queensland.
The school flourished during the war, and new additions were added in 1945. By 1948, the enrolment had peaked at 32.
In 1956, there were no Lutheran teachers available for the school, so in 1957, the Queensland Education Department provided a teacher to Downfall Creek School. As a result, the Lutheran Church school became Downfall Creek Provisional School.
The school closed in 1962, and children were then transported to Guluguba State School.
