DESCRIPTION
DescriptionTwo Commonwealth of Australia Combined Receiving Licences. The licence is a cream card with blue printing. The recipient's name, licence number, expiry date and fee are printed in black ink. The signature of the issuing officer is present with the time issued and date stamped.
The recipient of these licences was W. C Gibson, 14 Dunmall Street, Dalby. Licence number 1750687
In Australia, radio & television receiving licenses were abolished by the Whitlam Government in 1974. Prior to that, individuals were required to pay a fee to receive radio & television broadcasts. This fee was used to help fund the public broadcaster, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC). The abolition of the receiving license was partly due to concerns about the cost and inequity of the system, and the high cost of enforcement. Now, the ABC is funded by general government revenue.
