Mary Barry was a well know identity in Dalby, running "Mary's" Commercial Hotel from 1958 until her death in 2010 at the age of 91 years.
Following her death, the hotel was officially renamed Mary's Commercial Hotel, however the hotel was destroyed by fire in August 2018.
In 2023, Western Downs Regional Council redeveloped the land on which the hotel sat, into a public space named "Mary's Place". This was to honour both Mary Barry and her iconic hotel, as the site had a long history as a location where people could relax and enjoy each other's company.
Mary Barry was highly respected in Dalby for her friendly & welcoming hospitality, and for the dedication she showed for the community.
On 1 January 1971, Mary was awarded an MBE "in recognition of service to philanthropy".
