The Chinchilla Hospital Building Committee was formed in the early 1920s, with the Chinchilla Hospital officially opened in 1921.
A working bee had cut timber, which was milled locally, and another working bee cleared the prickly pear infested site. The Chinchilla Hospital consisted of several timber buildings with open verandas protected by canvas blinds.
In 1922, the old prickly pear experimental station at Dulacca was moved to Chinchilla, and made into an operating theatre.
