Built in 1950, approx. 2km north from Jimbour township on the Dalby Jandowae Road, the Baigin Silos had a grain storage capacity of 16,000 tonnes.
Its primary purpose was to facilitate the loading of grain trains for transport to Brisbane, with delivery of grain through a single "pit", which was then transported to the top of the silos via an elevator. A conveyor was located at the top of each silo to facilitate transfer of grain from one silo to the other.
A few years after the silos were completed, it was found that the grain elevator had a limited capacity and was replaced with equipment taken from a closed silo complex near Dalby. Train deliveries from Baigin ceased when the Jandowae branch train line was closed, with the last train running in 2006.
The silos are still in operation today with trucks being the sole source for incoming & outgoing deliveries.
